Peter was a free-spirited person who loved to travel. He had hitchhiked across Australia, and had backpacked from Singapore to Thailand. It was after his graduation, when his friends asked him to join them in a tour to Malaysia with other graduates from the Chinese Department. Although Peter was english educated, he welcomed the invitation as he loved to travel.
Peter naturally attracted a lot of attention during the trip. He was extremely tanned and looked more like a Malay than a Chinese. Also, being well-travelled, he often bragged about his backpacking experiences with his newly found friends throughout the entire trip. This irritated the gals in the group who weren't exactly very impressed. In fact, they pitied whoever his girlfriend was.
During the trip one morning, Peter woke up early to take a jog in the park. He took a turn at the pond and that was when he saw Long.
Long was a graduate from the Chinese Department. She was fair, slim and had thick long black hair. She was a cultured individual who could play the accordion, and was also good in her art. She too, had risen early that morning to do some sketching at the pond.
He greeted her with a smile, which she politely returned.
Peter was excited to know her. He found out from his friends that Long was a school team badminton player. At that point, he wanted to join badminton to get to know her better. However, after some thought, he decided against it. Anyway, it's only a trip, and they were unlikely to come together again back in Singapore.
They were very different. He spoke only english whereas she spoke only chinese. He was lean and dark whereas she was fair. He could only draw stick figures whereas she was a natural painter. Moreover, with such talents, Long must be very popular with other guys.
So, Peter continued his own life.
A year later, Peter's friend called him up again. This time, someone had dropped out from a Malaysia tour and they needed one more person to join in this trip. Unfortunately, Peter could not join them as he had to visit his relatives in Muar. After much persuasion from his friend, Peter joined the group in Kuala Lumpur.
When he boarded the tour bus in KL, he immediately saw Long, who was sitting near the door.
It was fate.
How could he now let the chance slip by? He tried to gain her attention throughout the trip. When the group trekked down a mountain, Peter stayed behind with Long. When there was a slight drizzle, he would offer her his poncho. He would also specially buy medication to help her dress her wound. Well, he's good and she was impressed.
Despite their polar differences, they eventually dated and got married almost 3 years later. Within the first year of their marriage, I was concieved.
This is my parents' love story. it's really interesting how my parents remembered their love story... both had different versions of their impressions of one another, which I investigated over two seperate dinners... ...
it's really wonderful experience which you should try too!
ask your parents how they fell in love...
